(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Three more people are in trouble for stealing two cars from an Aurora car dealership in March.
Cody Wimp, of New Albany, and Charles Phelps, of Henryville, were arrested last month for taking a Dodge Charger and Dodge Nitro from Car Country on U.S. 50.
Now in jail is Dearborn County is Jeremy Hanes, Jr., 18, of Marysville, Indiana. He was arrested last Thursday, May 12.
Two other men – William Lee, 19, of New Albany, and Codie Case, 19, of Jeffersonville - are still wanted.
Each of the suspects is charged with two counts of Auto Theft (Class D felony) and single counts of Burglary (Class C felony), Conspiracy to Commit Burglary (Class C felony), Theft (Class D felony), and Criminal Mischief (Class A Misdemeanor).
Aurora Police were called to Car Country the morning of March 10 where employees found that the two cars, each valued at about $22,000 retail, had been stolen.
The next day, Aurora investigators were contacted by the Clark County Sheriff’s Department. They had Cody Wimp in custody after he had been caught in a police pursuit driving the stolen Charger.
Interviews with the suspects revealed the group came to the area the night of March 9 looking to steal motorcycle’s from Thornton’s Motorcycle Sales in Versailles. When they got lost and ended up in Aurora, they instead decided to steal the cars from Car Country.
After stealing the cars, they swiped two license plates from vehicles at Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Lawrenceburg and placed them on the Nitro and Charger before driving back to the New Albany area.
