(Batesville, Ind.) - A Batesville man has made a guilty plea after being accused of hurting an infant child.
Bryan K. Herbert was charged with Battery Causing Serious Bodily Injury by the Ripley County Prosecutor’s office December 22. He made a guilty plea in Ripley Circuit Court last week.
Herbert made a 911 call from a home on Herbert Street in Batesville the morning of December 16 reporting that the boy had swallowed a baby wipe and was having difficulty breathing.
After the child arrived at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville, doctors found the wipe. The baby would later be aircared to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis where he would spend the next few days in intensive care.
Batesville Police detectives began investigating the incident, noting the baby’s respiratory distress was life threatening. Herbert claimed the infant had swallowed the wipe as he was cleaning out his mouth.
Herbert, 33, faces up to 20 years in prison when sentenced June 3 on the battery charge.
