(Rising Sun, Ind.) – A Rising Sun lawyer may toss his hat in the ring for Indiana’s next 6th District Congressman.
Lane Siekman is exploring whether to seek the Democrat nomination to succeed Republican Mike Pence in U.S. Congress in 2012 according to the “I Like Lane” Facebook page.
A 1978 Rising Sun High School graduate, Siekman is the executive director of the Ohio County Economic Development Corporation. He also operates Siekman Law Office in Rising Sun, is the city attorney for Rising Sun, and is an adjunct professor at Ivy Tech Community College.
“His straight forward manner mixes progressive action with Southern Indiana fiscal conservatism and common sense values. Isn't it time for a Congressman that looks out for us?,” Siekman’s Facebook page reads.
Two moves make 2012 more promising in the 6th District for Democrats. Pence announced last week he will run for Indiana’s Governor, ending a ten year stranglehold on the district. Also, redistricting has shifted the geography of the 6th to include Dearborn, Ohio, Ripley, Jefferson, and Switzerland counties.
Siekman last ran for public office in 1990, losing to Republican State Senator Johnny Nugent in Indiana Senate District 43.
