(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Southeast Indiana will be moving into the 6th Congressional District in 2012 under newly drawn legislative maps, but current Congressman Mike Pence may not be on the ballot.
Pence officially announced his decision Thursday to run for Indiana governor in 2012. He has been convincingly elected to the sixth district each election since his first term in 2000.
Pence’s absence will leave a void for Republicans to fill in the newly configured 6th.
The Associated Press reports former state legislator Luke Messer, of Shelbyville, may be a possibility as his home is drawn into the new district.
Messer ran in the 5th Congressional District last year, but narrowly lost to Republican Dan Burton in the primary election.
Messer could make an announcement in coming weeks.
