(Indianapolis, Ind.) – Some pundits consider him the current Republican frontrunner for president in 2012, but many people are demanding Donald Trump not be allowed to lead the pack at the 100th Indianapolis 500.
More than 16,000 people have joined a Facebook group called “We Don't Want Donald Trump to Drive the Indy 500 Pace Car” demanding that the star of the NBC’s “The Apprentice” be fired himself.
The invitation to drive the Chevrolet Camaro convertible pace car was accepted by Trump last month.
The group was created in protest of Trump’s “birther” claims that President Barack Obama was not born in the United States.
"We are certainly aware of the Facebook page, and we have certainly received complaints," said IMS spokesman Doug Boles told the Indianapolis Star. "But we have also received comments from other folks in support of Donald Trump driving the pace car. We are monitoring the situation; it's on our radar, and we are taking a look at it."
No matter who is driving the pace car, you can hear the 100th Indianapolis 500 on Eagle 99.3 May 29th.
