(Rising Sun, Ind.) - Rising Sun is being recognized as a town that loves its trees.
The city was notified last week that the Arbor Day Foundation has named it a Tree City USA Community for its commitment to urban forestry.
It’s three years running now that Rising Sun has earned a Tree City USA honor. This year the city was given a growth award for showing progress in its community forestry program.
“I believe the tree replacement program, implemented in 2008, in conjunction with the street department to replace and repair damaged trees has really paid off for our community. The city and the America In Bloom committee led by Janie Eldridge, continue to work together to improve our community and to keep our trees thriving,” said Rising Sun Mayor Bill Marksberry.
Marksberry credited the America In Bloom Committee, Rising Sun Street Department employees, and local participants in the America In Bloom Project with helping earn the award.
