A late night crash on U.S. 50 in Ripley County claimed the life of a Milan man.
Indiana State Police say Wess A. Lovins, 31, was driving westbound on U.S. 50 around 11:00 p.m. when for unknown reasons his 1997 Buick Century went left-of-center.
The car struck a semi tractor head-in.
Lovins was pinned inside the wreckage of his vehicle. A representative from the Ripley County Coroner’s Office pronounced him dead at the scene by massive trauma.
The semi driver and a co-driver were treated at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville for complaints of pain.
U.S. 50 remained closed at the crash scene until 5:00 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation Monday morning by Indiana State Police.
Troopers were assisted by the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, Milan Police Department, Milan Fire Department, Ripley County EMS, Ripley County Coroner’s Office, and the Indiana Department of Transportation.

(Elrod, Ind.) – Ripley County emergency responders made a late Sunday night run to U.S. 50 in Elrod for a fatal accident.
Indiana State Police Lt. Marty McKinney says a semi and passenger vehicle collided on the highway in Elrod just before midnight.
One person was killed in the crash. The victim's name has not been released.
U.S. 50 has since reopened at the accident scene.
The crash remains under investigation by Indiana State Police, who could release more information later Monday morning.
