Dearborn County Sheriff's Office
(Rising Sun, Ind.) - A Lawrenceburg man who sold the drugs that a Kentucky man later fatally overdosed on is being charged.
Lawrenceburg Police and the Dearborn County Special Crimes Unit detectives were called to an apartment on Valley Drive March 18. That’s where Lawrenceburg Detective David Schneider had found Robert Sexton, of Whitesburg, Ky., dead of an apparent heroin overdose.
Further investigation led to a search warrant of Brent Stephenson’s apartment. That uncovered more evidence showing Stephenson, 26, had sold the drugs to Sexton, 35, which were used in the overdose.
Stephenson was arrested that day on charges of Dealing in a Narcotic Drug within 1000 Feet of a Family Housing Complex and Maintaining a Common Nuisance. Toxicology results from Sexton’s autopsy recently came back to the prosecutor’s office, proving that he had died as a result of the heroin overdose – a charge of Reckless Homicide was filed against Stephenson.
Stephenson remains held in the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center.
“This was a good joint effort on the part of all involved. As a result the case had been brought to a successful conclusion,” Dearborn-Ohio County Prosecutor Aaron Negangard said.
