(West Lafayette, Ind.) – A Purdue University senior who graduated from East Central High School died of meningitis.
Adam Wilhelm, 23, died of the brain disease according to the university. He died March 28 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette.
The Tippecanoe County Coroner’s office said the variety of the disease which claimed Wilhelm is non-infectious and poses no threat to the public health.
Wilhelm’s death follows another case of meningitis at Purdue last fall in which a women’s basketball player was hospitalized. It’s the third case at the school in three years.
A double major in accounting and management, Wilhelm graduated from East Central in 2006. He was engaged to be married after graduation from Purdue.
He was the son of Leo and Juliann Wilhelm, of St. Leon.
His funeral was held April 1 at Andres-Wuestefeld Funeral Home in St. Leon.
