(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - You’re warned of the age-old adage, "if it’s too good to be true, it probably is."
Case in point – the latest scam being reported in southeast Indiana.
The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department says they’ve received a number of reports of a person calling and claiming to be a man named Charlie Compton from Galveston, Texas.
“He is telling people that they will receive $ 5,000,000 in cash because they pay their bills on time. The only thing that they need to do is wire $180 by Western Union to a location in St. James, Jamaica,” says Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer David Funch.
The number that the scam is being called from is (409) 539-6601.
“This is a scam. Please don’t send any money to these people,” says Funch, adding that people who receive the call should report it to their local police department.
