(Rising Sun, Ind.) - It’s still a few years off, but Rising Sun is planning its 200th birthday party.
The city will celebrate its bicentennial in 2014. In 1814, the city of then 700 people was registered by John James.
Since then Rising Sun has added about 2,000 residents, a riverboat casino, and quaint downtown historic district.
A bicentennial committee is getting a head start on planning the event. The committee will meet this evening at 5:00 p.m. at Heritage Hall on Main Street to begin brainstorming ideas for the celebration. Anybody is welcome to attend.
