(Aurora, Ind.) – Crooks made off with two vehicles from the lot of an Aurora car dealership sometime overnight.
“It’s been a rough start to the day,” Car Country manager Chris Schwab told Eagle 99.3 News.
As employees arrived to work at Car Country on U.S. 50 Thursday morning, they discovered the door to the office had been smashed with a rock Schwab said.
The thieves grabbed the keys and made off with a 2010 Dodge Nitro and 2009 Dodge Charger from the lot.
“For some low-life to come in and steal our products, it’s disappointing,” said Schwab.
Aurora Police estimate the value of the crime at $48,950 for the two vehicles and the broken door. The theft is believed to have occurred between 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and 8:00 a.m. Thursday.
Lawrenceburg Police are also investigating a second theft which could be related. License plates were stolen off of two cars at Enterprise Rent-A-Car on U.S. 50-Eads Parkway overnight as well.
“Thefts like this affect our families, our income. They’re not just hurting us. It’s the income potential for me, our employees, and in turn our families,” said Schwab.
Anybody with information on the thefts is asked to call the Aurora Police Department at (812) 926-1101. Car Country is offering a $500 reward for the return of the stolen vehicles or information leading at an arrest.
There were also reports that other car dealers in Dearborn County reported vandalism. Eagle 99.3 has contacted law enforcement seeking more information.
