(Sunman, Ind.) – A 19-year-old Sunman resident is in the hospital following an all-terrain vehicle accident in Ripley County Sunday.

The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office says Matthew C. Bauman was riding a Honda ATV on County Road 1000 E near Penntown around 3:46 p.m.

As Bauman went to make a turn into his driveway, the ATV struck a guardrail. Bauman was thrown from the vehicle.

He suffered internal injuries including possible broken bones. Bauman was taken by aircare to University Hospital in Cincinnati.

Deputies say he was wearing a helmet which may have saved his life by minimizing head trauma.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
