(Aurora, Ind.) – A driver barely dodged trouble after crossing a swollen Laughery Creek Thursday morning.
Dearborn County Water Rescue and area fire departments were dispatched to East Laughery Creek Road around 9:00 a.m. when a motorist reported that a van had stalled in the middle of the bridge crossing the creek from Ohio County into Dearborn County.
As emergency crews were heading to the scene, the van was able to begin moving again and crossed the bridge.
The driver of the van later called police to report damage to their vehicle. No injuries were reported.
The Dearborn County Transportation and Engineering Department says there is signage before the bridge warning drivers that the road may flood.
Dearborn County Emergency Management Director Bill Black has warned drivers to not even attempt crossing flooded roads.
“First Turn around and don’t drown. People need to not drive in high water. You don’t know how deep it is and what condition the road is in. It could be washed out or have holes in it,” Black said.
