Batesville Stellar Community
(Batesville, Ind.) – A heck of a welcoming party is being put on Friday for members of a committee that could decide to send millions of dollars in grant money to the City of Batesville.
The Indiana Stellar Communities Pilot Program is offering up to $4 million over three years for two Indiana cities. The money would be aimed at revitalization efforts.
Residents are urged to help welcome the Stellar Judging Committee to town on Friday morning as the committee arrives around 9:15 a.m. The committee was originally scheduled to visit Batesville February 3, but winter weather led to a cancellation.
Streets in the city have been lined by silver and blue stars to show off the community’s anticipation. People should dress festively and identify their Batesville passion, club, business, sport, school, or civic group.
The Batesville High School band and other live music will be part of the welcoming crew.
Batesville is competing with 11 other Indiana communities including Bedford, Greencastle, Marion, New Castle, North Vernon, Portland, Princeton, Rochester, Shelbyville, Union City and Washington. The Stellar Committee plans to announce the two winning communities in early March.
