(Aurora, Ind.) - Two people have filed to run for Aurora mayor this year.
Filing in the past week with the Dearborn County Clerk’s Office have been Republican Aaron Ellis and Democrat Rick Orcutt, Jr.
Orcutt is currently Aurora’s District 3 City Councilman. As of Tuesday, nobody had filed to fill that seat.
Mayor Donnie Hastings, a Republican, has not filed for a re-election run, but he is eligible to run because there are no term limits on mayors in Indiana. Hastings would face Ellis in a May primary race if he does file.
Aurora Republican voters will have a contested race for District 4 Councilman as Kevin Gerke has filed to challenge incumbent Frederick Lester.
The deadline to file for city and town offices in Indiana is noon on Friday, February 18.
