(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Longtime Indiana Senator Richard Lugar will have an opponent when he runs for re-election in 2012.

Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock announced Saturday that he will run in the Republican primar against Lugar.

Mourdock has been receiving backing by tea party groups.

A spokesperson for Lugar says the six-term senator is ready for the challenge.
