(Frankfort, Ky.) - Kentucky public schools would be allowed to teach Bible classes if a bill becomes law.

The Senate Education Committee approved Senate Bill 56 Thursday, setting the measure up for a full Senate vote.

A similar proposal passed the Senate last year, but it died in the House.

The Bible classes would be offered as electives, meaning students would not be required to take them.
