(Aurora, Ind.) - Indiana State Police have warned elderly residents about a new scam sweeping the area, but another person has fallen victim.
A woman in Aurora broke into tears Friday morning telling Eagle 99.3 she was duped out of $6,100.
A northern Ripley County resident was also victimized earlier this month.
The scam consists of a person calling an older resident claiming to be their grandchild. The scammer says they have been arrested in another country, usually Canada.
They ask for money to be wired to them to pay legal fees, but not to tell their parents.
If you get a similar call just hang up, take down the number, and contact police.
