21-year-old Mackenzie Stuart died Saturday from injuries she suffered in a crash on State Road 48 near Sunman on Friday afternoon.
The 2007 South Dearborn graduate was attending Butler University where she was vice president of the Math Club. She was just one semester from graduating with degrees in computer science and mathematics.
To keep Mackenzie’s memory alive, her family plans to set up a math and computer science scholarship at South Dearborn High School in her honor.
During her days at South Dearborn, Mackenzie proved to be both athletic and smart. She was a four-year letter winner in track – a sport she qualified for the state championship meet in twice – and a member of the academic team which once went to the state meet.
She is survived by parents Greg and Carolyn Stuart, a younger brother Sean, and older sister Madison.
A public memorial visitation for Mackenzie will be held Sunday, Jan. 30 at the Aurora Lions Building from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.
