(Franklin County, Ind.) - A Batesville Community Schools bus driver was found dead Tuesday after a woodcutting accident last weekend.

Indiana State Police say coworkers became concerned when Peter A. Sturm, 46, did not show up to drive his bus Monday or Tuesday.

A trooper and neighbor went to Sturm’s home to check on his welfare but were unable to locate him in the home or in any of the other buildings on his property.

The neighbor remembered that Sturm would often cut wood on his property. At about 8:30 a.m. they located Sturm’s body.

He was apparently cutting a tree sometime over the weekend when it fell on him causing massive head trauma and internal injuries. 

Sturm was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin County Coroner’s office.
