Gunpowder Creek in Boone County, Ky. |
The Gunpowder Creek Open House and Presentation is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011 in the Randall K. Cooper High School Library in Union, Ky. The open house runs from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and the presentation begins at 7:00 p.m.
Sections of Gunpowder Creek, which flows through the most populated areas of Boone County is so polluted, that sections of it are considered unfit for human contact. The land that drains into Gunpowder Creek is home to almost 50 percent of Boone County residents.
Last September, the Boone County Conservation District received a grant to clean up the 35 mile creek.
Everyone is encouraged to attend and learn more about the Gunpowder Creek Watershed Initiative, and what we can do to help protect and restore the stream.
For more information about the open house or initiative, visit the Boone County Conservation District website at www.boonecountyky.org/bccd.
