U.S. Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN 6).

(Columbus, Ind.) – Indiana Congressman Mike Pence is not adding extra security just days after Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head at an event in her district.

Pence attended an event in Columbus Monday accompanied by just one staffer. The Republican sixth district congressman said he will continue to hold public meetings without security changes as long as he serves in Congress.

Newly elected U.S. Senator Dan Coats also said he does not want to overdo security at his Indianapolis office, which opened up on Monday.

"I need to be with the people," Coats told the Indianapolis Star.
