The Indiana Department of Workforce Development has released its latest annual list of Hoosier Hot 50 Jobs. Data including a particular job’s projected long- and short-term growth, wages, and current demand.
Indiana’s most in-demand career this year with 330 anticipated openings each year through 2018 is a computer software engineer, a position that carries an average annual salary of more than $72,000. Along with software engineers from the information technology sector, network systems and data communications analysts are Indiana’s fourth hottest job.
Second on the list, management analysts will see plenty of demand over the same time period with 409 annual openings and average salary of $66,691.
Two health science sector jobs rounded out the top five. Third on the list, physicians and surgeons will fill 555 projected new positions each year through 2018. Registered nurses will have the most opportunities with 2,281 positions opening yearly.
Four much of southeast Indiana – the department’s Region 9 area covering Dearborn, Ohio, Ripley, Franklin, Switzerland, Jefferson, Jennings, Decatur, Bartholomew, and Jackson counties – the most in-demand job often times does not require any degree.
Construction laborers led Region 9’s top ten hot jobs, followed by registered nurses, truck drivers, LP and LV nurses, industrial engineers, construction managers, operating engineers, heating and air conditioning mechanics, human resources specialists, and computer software engineers.
