(Versailles, Ind.) - A reported kidnapping in Ripley County last month was made up.

Indiana State Police say Tammy J. Gross, of Versailles, came to the Versailles post Dec. 26 to report that she had been kidnapped by a black man when she stopped her car on U.S. 50 near State Road 129.

Gross, 53, told police the man forced her at gunpoint to drive him to Cincinnati where he then allegedly stole $200 before releasing her.

A couple days after the alleged incident Tpr. Joe Prather received information from the Ripley County Probation Department the claim of the kidnapping may have been false.  As the investigation continued, Tpr. Prather was able to determine no kidnapping occurred and the victim’s claim to be completely fictitious.

Gross is charged with misdemeanor False Reporting.
