(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The City of Lawrenceburg is putting a local car dealer out of business.

City council voted this week to revoke the business license of Doug Norman, owner of Doug’s Cars, 1130 U.S. 50.

Lawrenceburg Police and Dearborn County Special Crimes Unity detectives began investigating the dealership in 2009 after numerous complaints from customers in recent years.

Detectives found that Norman had documented sales prices lower than what he had actually been paid so as to pay less in taxes.

The practice led to Norman being convicted last month in a Dearborn Superior Court II bench trial of Corrupt Business Influence and Money Laundering – both felonies. He will face sentencing Thursday, Jan. 27.

Indiana law allows the City of Lawrenceburg to take away a business license if an owner is convicted of a felony.

Lawrenceburg Police Chief Gene Hunefeld recommended to council members that Norman’s license be revoked.
