(Frankfort, Ky.) – It could be against the law to light up a cigarette in any public building in Kentucky.

State Rep. Susan Westrom (D-Lexington) plans to file legislation to ban smoking in all indoor workplaces Thursday the Louisville Courier-Journal reports.

The proposal is being backed by anti-smoking advocates including Smoke Free Kentucky.

Kentucky, a state that relies heavily on the tobacco industry, ties with West Virginia for the nation’s highest adult smoking rate at 25.6 percent.

Some Kentucky communities have already taken it upon themselves to ban smoking in most public places. Louisville and Lexington have enacted ordinances in recent years. Kenton County approved a ban last month.
