(Ripley County, Ind.) - A single vehicle accident claimed the life of a 54-year-old Osgood native late New Years Eve night.
According to Sgt. Marvin Smith of the Ripley County Sheriff's Office, Bart E. Saylor was south bound on Delaware Road around the 1000 N block at about 10:22 p.m., when for reasons unknown at this time his vehicle left the right side of the road and struck several trees head on.
According to evidence at the scene, Mr. Sayler was not wearing a seatbelt and ejected from the vehicle.
Mr. Sayler was transported to Margaret Mary Hospital by Rescue 10, where he succumbed to his life threatening injury.
According to Sgt. Smith the cause of the accident is unknown at this time and is still under investigation. Evidence at the scene suggests alcohol may have been a factor.
Sgt. Smith was assisted by Ripley County Sheriff’s Deputies, the Batesville Police Department; Batesville Rescue 10, Batesville Fire, Ripley County Medics, ISP, and the Ripley County Deputy Coroner.
