For the third straight day, crews from more than a dozen agencies scanned the Ohio River east of Vevay in an effort to find Justin Hearn.
Hearn, 20, was duck hunting from a boat with two friends when the boat took on water and sank. The other two managed to grab lifejackets and swim to shore, but Hearn could only hold on to a bag of floating decoy ducks.
Indiana Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Gary Catron said Wednesday evening at 6:30 the recovery operation has been terminated.
“Justin Hearn is to be listed in the National Crime Information Center as a missing person. The family has been notified and is in support of this decision,” Catron said.
Human scent-sniffing K9s were brought to the search area Wednesday without success.
