(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Senator Evan Bayh will not be running for governor in 2012.

The retiring Democratic U.S. Senator told the Indianapolis Star he had considered running but decided against it to avoid disrupting the lives of his twin sons, who are now in high school.
"A big part of me wants to,” Bayh said when asked about making another run for the governor's office, which he held from 1989 to 1997.
Senator Bayh followed his father's footsteps into politics, first being elected secretary of state at the age of 30 in 1986.
His father, Birch Bayh, served as an Indiana U.S. Senator from 1963 to 1981, losing reelection in 1980 to future Vice President Dan Quayle.
