Dillsboro Assistant Fire Chief Tom Lewis confirms that it was two Dillsboro firefighters injured in Saturday's house fire on Milton-Bear Branch Road in Ohio County.

 

Kris Heitmeyer was aircared to University Hospital after being hurt when a masonry at the home collapsed. He has since been released from the hospital.

 

Dan Egbert was the other firefighter injured. He was treated at the scene.

(Dillsboro, Ind.) - A local firefighter was hospitalized during a house fire in Ohio County Saturday afternoon.

 

Around 3:30, fire departments from Dillsboro, Aurora, East Enterprise, Rising Sun, and Bear Branch responded to the log home fire at 5134 Milton-Bear Branch Road according to Rising Sun Fire Department Public Information Officer Nick Levi.

 

Two firefighters were hurt when a masonry in the home collapsed on them.

 

One of the firefighters suffered injuries serious enough to be aircared to University Hospital in Cincinnati where he was last listed in good condition.

 

The other injured firefighter was treated at the scene by Ohio County EMS.

 

Both firefighters’ names are being withheld.

 

Crews remained on the scene of the fire until 9:30 Saturday evening as the log home suffered extensive damage said Levi.

 

A cause of the fire is still being investigated by the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office, Dearborn County Fire Investigation Team, and the Bear Branch Fire Department.
