(Ghent, Ky.) - A man was killed in an explosion at a steel plant in Gallatin County, Ky. Tuesday afternoon.
According to Kentucky State Police, employees of Harsco Metals, a contractor at the Gallatin Steel, Inc. plant located on U.S. 42 in Ghent, were replacing a large tire on heavy equipment when that tire exploded around 3:30 p.m.
Madison, Ind. resident Robin Kelley was seriously injured. EMS workers removed him from the scene immediately but Kelley would be pronounced dead at Carroll County Memorial Hospital.
Four other men were hurt. One of those men was the plant manager David Davanzati, 50, of Louisville, Ky. who was in serious condition. He was flown by medical helicopter to University Hospital in Cincinnati.
The other three employees were taken to Carroll County Memorial for non-life threatening injuries:
Jeffrey Huff, 51, from Lexington, Ind.
Thomas Gayle, 53, from Madison, Ind.
Andy Baumgartner, 53, from Turners Station, Ky.
Kentucky State Police are investigating the deadly industrial accident.
