The Versailles Fire Department says four employees told investigators they were cleaning the tanks at the business on U.S. 421 south of Versailles when one of the tanks fell over. The cap was knocked off and began leaking the volatile gas.
The employees just did make it out of the building before it exploded. No injuries were reported.
Tanks continued to explode after the initial explosion, leveling the shop building where the tanks were located. Shockwaves shattered windows in other nearby buildings.
U.S. 421 was closed to traffic for the next few hours as firefighters battled the inferno.
While still under investigation, the Versailles Fire Department says the incident appears to be accidental.
