(Versailles, Ind.) – The sale of a controversial substance known for its side effects  is now banned in Versailles.

K2

K2, also sold or known as Spice, has been

outlawed for sale in Versailles.

Known as K2 or Spice, the product is marketed as and meant to be used as incense. It has gained national attention because many people, especially teenagers, are smoking it to get a marijuana-like high.

The Versailles Town Council has now passed an ordinance banning the sale of Spice or other products containing synthetic cannabinoids or methadone. Businesses in town caught selling it face a fine of $2,500.

The ordinance also allows the product to be confiscated by police.

While one has been proposed by lawmakers, there is currently no state law prohibiting the sale of Spice.

Dozens of other municipalities across the state have been proactive in passing ordinances similar to Versailles’. The product has already been banned in over a dozen states.
